After graduation from the high school he served in the Soviet Army and returned to his native village, where he helped his parents growing crops. After a while he settled down to married life, four children were born. Abduvali understood that for maintaining a family he should earn more. Thereby there was a family council gathered and they took a decision to depart for Russia to make some earnings. Everything that was earned was remitted to the homeland. Kanybek Kachkynbaev was born into a family of 12 children in the Kyrgyz town of Talas. His father was a shepherd on a collective farm and from an early age, Kanybek helped him look after the cattle. From the money they earned, Kanybek decided to start a business selling sheep. Kanybek bought several sheep, raised them in an unfinished room of his house and sold them at a profit. He decided to grow the business, but this required a larger investment. Kanybek took an initial loan of 7 500 US dollars from a commercial bank, but the bank refused another request for a larger amount.

Without a labor you won’t catch a fish out of pond

The Kyrgyz Republic’s economy depends heavily on agriculture including the fishing industry. Issyk-Kul, the second largest alpine lake in the world, is famous for its natural beauty and azure waters, but not its productivity. Years of overfishing have decimated Issyk- Kul’s fisheries and much of the smoked fish sold in the surrounding cities comes from other alpine lakes. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, many local fish farms and factories were closed down because of their outdated equipment and lack of financing. While some were privatized, few fish factories could adjust to the new market conditions.

Adalat Murzuraimova, the head the Kyrgyzbai Farm, was born and has grown up in the Kyrgyz-Ata village in a family of the agriculturist. Adalat, after graduating from school, right away began to work in the Telman Collective Farm. After collapse of the Soviet Union and close of many collective farms Adalat began to run business in: animal and field husbandry. That time she had 1 cow, 8 sheep and 1.5 hectares of arable land in her housekeeping. Adalat was a mother of three children and she understood that all of them required good education; and household expenses were high. After certain period of time she understood that without external funds she would not be able to construct good business. Therefore, in 2002, Adalat turned the Bai-Tushum and Partners Company for the loan of 60 000 KGS; she used the obtained loan to buy some cattle and to lease some land for the purpose of potatoes and corn cultivation.

Taalaibek Gaipberdiev was born and grew up in a family of journalists. Even as a child he dreamed of opening his own puppet theater, so soon after graduating from high school Taalaibek together with his friends started a theater workshop in the district Culture Center. At that time Taalaibek decided that he would become an actor. After a while he entered the Tashkent Theatrical Institute, Acting Faculty. From the very childhood Taalaibek took a great interest in sewing clothes, while in the institute he began to sew for himself, and then he realized that he could make money this way and began to sew clothes for sports clubs.

Tractor operator Mirlan Berimkulov

Mirlan Berimkulov was born in the city of Bishkek. He is 41 years old. In 1985 after the ninth grade, he entered the rural professional technical school to study tractor operations. Three years after he finished school, he was conscripted into the Soviet military. In 1990 after finishing his service, he moved from the city of Bishkek to the village Jany-Alysh. There was no work in Bishkek after the disintegration of the Soviet Union, but on the collective farms, tractor operators were needed. The wages were good, and he even managed to save money and buy a small house in Orlovka where he was able to bring his young wife.

Minavarkhon Abdirakhmanova

Minavarkhon Abdirakhmanova is 57 years old, married. Her husband is a farmer. Minavarkhon lived with her family in the village of Karasuu (Osh Oblast). They worked in animal husbandry and agriculture, cultivating vegetables and cotton. Unfortunately, the income produced by their small plot of land was very difficult to live on.
