Mamatali Joldoshev was born and grew up in Jalpak Tash village, Uzgen Raion, Osh Oblast in the family of local farmer. Today he is a successful entrepreneur who specializes in tailoring of traditional headwear called “Tebetei”. In 1986 Mamatali graduated from the Polytechnic Institute and has been working for 14 years for the building company as a Foreman and then as a Head Foreman. Since 1997 he has been engaged in manufacturing and sale of men’s and women’s traditional headwear called “Suusar Tebetei” and mink hats. Mamatali’s wife is involved in making women’s and children’s cloths, which she sells at “Dordoi” market.

In early 2011, Mamatali obtained his first loan from the Bai-Tushum and Partners Company for the purpose of purchasing the marten and mink fur; afterwards he obtained the second loan for the purpose of buying fabric and accessories for cloths. Garment manufactured by Mamatali’s wife is exported to the markets in Moscow, while Tebetei hats are highly demanded by local wealthy people.

Mamatali says: “I’m keen to preserve the culture, traditions and customs of our ancestors; therefore I enjoy my work very much. In the past our ancestors used to wear the Tebetei hats made of fur, and used to give them as presents to the most esteemed guests of honor, or to the respected people. Today I am glad that this tradition is becoming more and more popular”.

His wife and her younger brother help him in the family business. Mamatali provides 6 people with jobs and decent wages. He plans to expand the business, to launch a shop for selling the Tebeteys and other traditional items.
